Biography

Born on October 16 in Osaka, Toko KAWAI started drawing as she was a child but started Manga quite late. Indeed, Toko KAWAI first worked in a design company but, after a while, wondered if that was really what she wanted to do with her life.

When seeing the work of a Mangaka friend, she decided to have a go. She presented her work to several publishing houses, and was spotted the third time. She then published her first Manga Keijijôna Bokura, in 2000.

Though she studied art and design in high school and at university, she never attended any Manga lessons. She found inspiration in her friend’s illustrations and started drawing this way.

Toko KAWAI draws her Manga alone, without an assistant or a computer. She decided to specialize in Yaoi because she thinks that relations between a man and a woman always have consequences, such as children... Moreover, for her, stories between men are more romantic.

She thinks that most Yaoi readers are young girls and that a woman in a script may arouse jealousy, which is not a problem in Yaoi.
