Wabi-Sabi is an exhibition bringing a unique glimpse of the traditional Japanese culture. It takes you on the path to poetry, calligraphy, arts and crafts.

 

 

The Exhibition

 

The Wabi-Sabi exhibition is part of a cycle of exhibitions organized by Biken International which takes place from 2011 to 2015, presenting the Japanese aesthetic values of the Wabi-Sabi concept.
Every day in Japan Expo, some artists coming especially from Japan will organize demonstrations and workshops in the Wabi-Sabi area.
For example, you will be given the opportunity to discuss with Japanese artists, assist to their mini-conferences, and try to create your own work of art.
Indeed there will be many occasions to understand the Japanese spirit and techniques.
Every day from July 5 to 8, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

 

 

The Wabi-Sabi concept

 

The exhibition aims at transmitting the values of the Japanese spirit of Wabi-Sabi which represents an aesthetics focused on accepting transiense, the blooming of a condemned and ephemereal beauty.
This concept comes from buddhism and the three aspects of existence (Imperfection, Impermanence and Incompleteness). The Wabi-Sabi aesthetics is about asymmetry, asperity, simplicity, modesty, intimacy and the assumption of the natural process.

 

 

Japanese culture in France

 

In 1615, a Japanese man arrived in France for the first time in history. In the 19^th century, Japanese art print becomes a new source of inspiration for impressionist European painters. Many Japanese works of art are presented in Paris for the Universal Exhibition. Japanese art is getting more and more popular.
Today, almost 400 years have passed and Japanese culture is more popular than ever in France and all over Europe. The Wabi-Sabi exhibition explores Japanese culture in all its aspects and over the centuries.
