Kojiki, the tale of ancient times
The Kojiki is the oldest written tale in Japan and tells us about Japanese myths: the birth of Kami (gods), the creation of the Japanese islands, the way ancient people lived in harmony with nature and the beginnings the empire. The Kojiki tackles the History of Japan and of its culture.

On stage, the artists play the scene of Ame-no-Iwato, literally the “rock cave on heaven”. It is Amaterasu’s story, the sun goddess, considered as one of the most precious goddess. She ran away from her brother Susanoo’s rudeness into a rock cave. Her absence caused darkness in heaven and on Japan’s island. To make her get out of her haven, the other Kami organized a party outside of it. When one of the goddesses tore her clothing off dancing, the other Kami started laughing. Amaterasu’s curiosity made her look out of her cave and she got blinded looking at a mirror. She thought the others were celebrating the arrival of another goddess, even more luminous than herself. One of the gods forced the cave open and light flooded over heaven the the islands of Japan.
