The secrets of Kyara-ben

 

Bentô are getting more and more popular and many of us keep on adopting these unique meals placed in typically Japanese lunch-boxes. Practical, Bentô transform into Kyara-ben (from Kyarakuter, Japanese for character) : works of art full of Kawaii characters set in colorful sets, the whole delightfully ending up in our stomachs!

At Japan Expo, a video of chef Kazuhiko CHIKAISHI unveils the secrets of Kyara-ben. Step by step, he explains the recipes and stages of making these uncommon meals. In collaboration with the Kai Group company, kitchenware maker, the accessories allowing to easily make super Kawaii Bentô are presented.

You can admire some of his Bentô and their cute characters. Back home, you’ll want but one thing: make your own Kyara-ben thanks to the recipes handed over during the conference!

 

 

The chef: Kazuhiko CHIKAISHI

 

Kazuhiko CHIKAISHI got in the Aoyagi company in 1985. In 1993, il was chosen to take part in a Japanese cooking event and then started working at the Ritz and Bristol hotel as a Chef specialized in Japanese cuisine.

In 1996, when the Aoyagi restaurant in Toranomon in Tôkyô opened, he became manager. Alongside chef Hirohisa KOYAMA, he made Aoyagi Toranomon restaurant become an unavoidable gastronomical place.

He is currently managing all the Aoyagi restaurants, among which the headquarters in Tokushima and Tôkyô’s.
