Do you celebrate Hanami?
Since the beginning of the month, cherry trees are in bloom in Japan: let’s celebrate!!

Every year, from early April to early May, the tradition of Hanami (literally, view flowers) is in full swing in Japan. The Japanese meet under charming cherry trees while pick-nicking.


InTôkyô - 2012
The tradition dates back to the Nara period (8th century) during which people admired blossoming Ume (plum flowers). In the 9th century, Emperor Saga transformed this tradition into a celebration for blossoming cherry trees.


In Fukushima - 2012
If the season of Hanami and cherry blossoms is done in Tôkyô or Kyôto for this year, it is going on now in the North of Japan and will end in Hokkaido.
